About Ophors

What this site is

Ophors is about running a home when you have a job or a course, a normal amount of money and not much spare time. It covers four things: organisation, cleaning, meal planning and small-space living. That is deliberately narrow. Each of those is a real, recurring problem in a small flat, and each one can be answered with specifics rather than a list of thirty things to try.

The reader I have in mind is someone in the UK who has recently started running their own place, probably renting, probably in a flat with hard water and nowhere to put a washing machine, who wants to know what works, how long it takes and roughly what it costs. Articles say what to buy and what not to bother with. They give timings and quantities, and they say where each one comes from. When something only works if you have a garden or a garage, the article says so rather than pretending.

It is not a lifestyle site. There are no product round-ups written to sell you things, no "hacks", and no figure that you cannot trace back to a source and check for yourself.

18, just moved out, learning how to run a small flat without ringing home every time.

I'm Max. I'm 18 and I moved out of my parents' place a few weeks ago into a small flat. Turns out nobody tells you how to do the actual home stuff. Every guide online is either a 3,000-word ramble with the answer buried at the bottom, or it's written for people with a house, a garage and a free Saturday. I just wanted the numbers. How long does rice last in the fridge. What are you actually allowed to put on the oven. Does the kettle need descaling or is it fine. So that's what this site is. Every article starts with one question and the three facts that answer it. I look those facts up properly, meaning the manufacturer's instructions, a government or NHS page, that kind of thing, not some random blog, and I link to them so you can check. If I couldn't find a proper source for something, it's not in the article. I read and edit everything before it goes up. If I've got something wrong, tell me and I'll fix it and say so.

The site is published by Aucuparia Holdings Ltd, a company registered in Cyprus.

How the articles are put together

Every article starts from a brief: the question it answers, and at least three concrete, checkable details it has to include, such as a measurement, a timing, a cost or a named product category. I find each of those in a primary source before anything gets written. That means the manufacturer's instructions, a government or NHS page, or the relevant standard, not another blog, and the link sits right next to the figure in the text. If I could not verify something, it is left out or given as a range with its basis stated. I do not run experiments in my kitchen and pretend they are science; what this site does is collect what the people who make the product or set the rules actually say, and put it in one place with the padding removed. If an article turns out to be wrong, I correct it on the page and show the updated date. There is no sponsored content and, at present, no advertising or affiliate links; the disclaimer has the detail.

Use of AI

Drafts may be AI-assisted. Every article is edited, fact-checked and approved by Max Black before publication. In practice the structure and the facts come from the brief and its verified sources, a drafting tool may help with the first pass of the prose, and then I cut anything generic, check every number against its link again, and rewrite it so it sounds like me rather than a manual. Nothing goes up that I have not read in full.
